Happy New Year! 2014 Now Done - Year In Review

Hellego! Another year is coming to its end. A lot of things happened this year, especially to the blog.

In June, I finally decided to change the blog name from CD's Lego Blog to CD's Brick Mix. I had been thinking about this for a while before doing the change. The idea of changing my blog name came to me because I had started to notice that a lot of people in the Lego community who either had websites or a YouTube channel and had Lego in their name, were changing their name to not have Lego in it because Lego is a copyrighted name. Afterwards, after starting to think about changing my name, I realised that CD's Lego Blog was not the most original name either. It's pretty obvious that it is a blog about Lego. I had thought about many different names like CD's Blog of Bricks. I wanted a name that still kept the CD. I thought since I do a variety of posts on my blog, it would be nice to have a name that says that. It's a mix of subjects and I found that CD's Brick Mix sounded really good when said. The whole process of changing the name is much more complicated than it sounds. Lots of aspects have to be thought out. The change was successful, although I did lose a lot of views per month because people had not adapted to the change and still went to CD's Lego Blog.

This year I got to go at two different Lego stores: one in Toronto and one in New York! I had travelled a lot this summer and it was very exciting. I also got to go to my first ever Comic-Con convention and it was awesome! I could not believe that I had actually gone to comic con. I did also get Lego there. This year The Lego Movie also came out which was such a big hit. Personally it was one of the best movies I've watched this year.

If there is one thing I am disappointed about this year though is the fact that I hardly made any stop motions. I only made one around March that was only about 30 seconds long. I really would have liked to have done more but as I said in a couple of past posts, what I was working on in the end was not possible. I hope next year I will be able to fully get back into it.

So this is my 2014 year in review. The year went by somewhat quickly. A lot of events happened over the year. But like every year, it goes by and the year ends. If you would like to tell me a bit about how your year went, feel free to leave a comment! Happy New Year and I wish you all a great and healthy year in 2015!

Lego Store Pick A Brick Wall Purchases New York and Toronto

Hellego! With the year ending soon, I realised that I went to Lego stores this year more often than any year. For some people it may seem like nothing but for somebody who does not live by one, going to a Lego store is special every time. I recently realized that I had never published on my blog the amount of bricks I bought. This post is if you are interested to know what I got at the time, but also for my personal use so that if in the future I want to know what I got at a certain Lego store at a certain year, I can just go and check on my blog.

Lego Marvel Super Heroes is a Greatest Hits!

Hellego! Yesterday, I went to Best Buy and finally picked up Lego Marvel Super Heroes the video game for PlayStation 3! I got it on sale for 15$ instead of 25$ because of the boxing week sales. I am very happy to have been able to get this game for such a good price.

When I got to the rack with all the copies of the game, at the front there was one, regular copy of the game but behind it was a bunch of new red cased Greatest Hits copies! These have just come out and I wanted to write about this because I think it's so cool that this game has been so successful that it is now considered by PlayStation as being part of the Greatest Hits! I have been enjoying this game so much and I think Lego did an amazing job on it and they deserve this special case. It's not every day that a game gets to be considered a greatest hit!

So if you don't have the game yet, I highly suggest you go and get it while it's on sale. The sale ends January 1st. If you get it, make sure you get the new special Greatest Hits copy!

What do you think? Do you think this game deserves to be a greatest hit? Leave your opinion in the comment section!

Launch of Bionicle in 2015!

Hellego! A few months back, I had written about speculations that Lego Bionicle would come back. We soon found out that those speculations were right! At New York Comic Con, there was a short video that announced the arrival which got millions of fans excited. The Lego Group has announced that on January 1st, there will be the official global launch of the theme! From the time I'm writing this, it's in less than two weeks!

Used by permission,® 2014 The LEGO Group

For the new release of Bionicle, Lego is starting off with a brand new storyline. The story will take place on the mysterious island of Okoto where once again, the evil Makuta is back. Makuta now wants to get his hands on three mystic masks that if combined, it will cast the world into darkness. The three masks are: the Mask of Creation, the Mask of Control and the Mask of Ultimate Power. Once again, the six Toa will be back representing each a certain element and will join forces to fight the evil Makuta. The Toa will begin a quest to find the masks before Makuta and if they do, the three masks will allow the Toa to unlock their full potential. Once they unlock their full potential, only then will they be able to defeat Makuta once and for all.

Right at the start of 2015, Lego will be releasing a total of 12 Bionicle sets. Six Toa sets and six Protector sets. The sets are:

Protector sets:
  1. LEGO Bionicle Protector of Jungle
  2. LEGO Bionicle Protector of Stone
  3. LEGO Bionicle Protector of Water
  4. LEGO Bionicle Protector of Earth
  5. LEGO Bionicle Protector of Ice
  6. LEGO Bionicle Protector of Fire
Toa sets:
  1. LEGO Bionicle Gali the Master of Water
  2. LEGO Bionicle Pohatu the Master of Stone
  3. LEGO Bionicle Lewa the Master of Jungle
  4. LEGO Bionicle Onua the Master of Earth
  5. LEGO Bionicle Kopaka the Master of Ice
  6. LEGO Bionicle Tahu the Master of Fire, along with a Lord of Skull Spiders
As you can see, all the Toa will be back as the same characters with the same names. I personally am excited to see Bionicle come back. I had never understood why Lego had discontinued Bionicle in the first place. With the re-release of Bionicle, it will allow a whole new generation of kids to discover this awesome theme. What do you think? Are you excited for the 2015 launch of Bionicle? Leave your thoughts in the comment section!

Lego Star Wars MOC - Data Battle

Hellego! Ever since Solid Brix Studios started making his Building Kashyyyk video series, he has shown me new ways to build and has inspired me in my creations.

I've wanted to make a MOC but I did not have a specific idea. Naturally for my Data Battle MOC, I was inspired by the Building Kashyyyk series. The water technique, building my own tree and have a beach going gradually into forest, those were all elements I wanted to combine in a MOC. That is how I started the Data Battle MOC.

As you can see, I managed to combine all these elements on only a basic green baseplate. I really like how I managed to make a beach area in the corner and have it transform into forest. The story of this MOC is the troopers had installed a small base located in an area where they could intercept the separatist signal and hear about their plans. The separatists discovered it and are now trying to destroy it.

Check out the video I made for this MOC:

The Lego Clone Army Project

Hellego! If you follow the Lego community on YouTube, you have probably already heard of or watched Solid Brix Studios, previously known as legoboy12345678. Every year, he releases a clone army video where he shows off his massive army of Lego clone minifigures from the Star Wars theme. Last year, his clone army reached 5000 clones. David Hall, the owner of Solid Brix Studios has started this project and I think you deserve to know about it. It's called the Clone Army Project.

The whole basis of the Clone Army Project is that David wants to build the second largest clone army in the world, composed of over 15000 clones. Not only is it going to be composed of 15000 clones, but it is going to be displayed at the Lego convention, Brickfair Alabama. But he is not going to do it on his own. His fans and anybody who wants to can help him reach his goal. He has created a funding campaing on Indiegogo for you to help fund the project. But this isn't just about funding. If you choose for example to pay 5$, you basically buy one clone for the clone army. That clone will be in the army, go to Brickfair Alabama and when the convention is over, that exact same clone will be delivered to your house! Which ever amount of clones you buy from the Indiegogo page will be part of the actual clone army and you will be able to keep them afterwards! I think that is a pretty cool project. Every amount you pay also comes with for example a poster or a card.

Here is a basic view of all the available perks:

If you want, you can simply give 2$ and get a digital poster. Simply 2$ will go a long way into helping David reach his goal. If you pay 20$, you will get 5 clone troopers, which means that the 5th one is free. You can check out all the available perks and learn more about this project at the Indiegogo page: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-clone-army-project

Here is the official video David made on his Solid Brix Studios channel to announce the project:

I think this is an awesome project that deserves to be known. This is something that has never really been done before and I think it's very original. If you don't have a lot of money, you can donate 2$ if you want. Any amount makes a huge difference. What do you think of this project? Leave your thoughts in the comment section!

The Bricktober Event Is Back!

Hellego! Once again, the Bricktober event is back at Toys R Us and is filled with full of exciting Halloween surprises! This year's Bricktober has a total of two Make N Take events and one minifigure trade-in day.

To start off, October 18th will be the Lego Star Wars Minifigure Trade-In Day! For this event, all you have to do is bring any minifigure, it does not have to be a star wars minifigure, look for a store clerk that has minifigures with him and ask to trade with any Lego Star Wars figure he has! The event lasts all day long and there is a limit of only one minifigure trade per person.

Next, on October 25th, it's the Lego Batman Bat-Signal Make N Take event! The event starts at 11am and ends around 1pm. In this event, you go and build your very own Lego Bat-Signal and take it home for free! Here is a weird change that Lego has added to all Make N Take events this year. In the Lego magazine and on the Toys R Us site, they specify that you need to be between 4 and 14 years old to build the model. I find it very disappointing that they put that age limit.

The last event is another Make N Take event and is on November 1st. It's the Lego Star Wars Rebels Make N Take. The model that you will be able to build will be the Ghost Ship. I suspect that it will be a micro-sized version, but it's still pretty cool. Again, the event starts at 11am and ends at 1pm. Just like the Bat-Signal, you get to take the model home for free. They seem to specify also for this event that you need to be between ages 4 and 14.

Another fun Bricktober event is if you spend over 30$, you get a free Lego pumpkin! Also, if you spend 75$ or more, you get a free Streetview Build. The Streetview Build is like a micro modular set. Each week is a different building and you can collect all four to make a nice street. From October 3rd to 9th it's the Theater, October 10th to 16 is the Pizzeria, October 17 to 23rd it's the Fire Station and October 24th to 30th is the Town Hall.

I find that the activities sound really good this year. I am just very disappointed that they put an age limit to be able to participate. I think it's ridiculous that they did that. I don't know, but maybe I will still go and try to sneak my way into building one ;) ... What do you think about this year's Bricktober event? Are you excited? Leave your thoughts in the comments!

Lego Has Successfully Reduced CO2 Emissions

Hellego! Following the news last year that Lego is going to reduce their box sizes, Lego has released some results.

By the end of 2014, The Lego Group will have reduced their CO2 emissions by 10000 tones! By the end of 2014, approximately 6000 tonnes of cardboard will be saved and since the boxes are smaller, it will have reduced the transportation needs by 3000 truckloads.

Used by permission,® 2014 The LEGO Group
It's great that a little over a year later after the announcement of box size reduction that there are already seeing huge changes. It’s a big step that will help Lego reach their goal of becoming carbon positive by 2016.

Another positive action Lego has done for the environment is joining the FSC. The FSC is a worldwide, non-profit organization that helps the promotion of responsible forest management. This means that Lego's cardboard is made from forests managed under sustainable principals by the FSC. Thus, Lego's cardboard boxes are made from very carefully selected trees, recycled materials and are recyclable.

Used by permission,® 2014 The LEGO Group
Since 2011, Lego has been carefully evaluating how they can use FSC certified materials for their instructions and boxes while still giving the best quality possible. The result, more than 90 % of the materials Lego uses for product packaging are FSC certified. Their goal is to reach 100% by 2015.

It's great to hear all this positive news. Lego is definitely going in the right direction to helping the environment. It's incredible how simply reducing the box size a bit can remove over 3000 trucks on the roads. It makes a huge difference on their CO2 emissions.

If you would like to learn more about the FSC, you can follow this link: https://ic.fsc.org/about-us.1.htm

Sad News For the Lego Club Magazine

Hellego! News has just surfaced that there will soon be a major change towards the Lego Club Magazine. If you're like me, over 13 and enjoy the Lego magazine, then you will be very disappointed.

Starting in September, all Lego Club members living in Germany, Austria and Switzerland that are older than 13 years old will no longer be able to receive the magazine. Then in November, this change will occur in all of Europe. Finally, at the start of 2015, this change will affect the rest of the world. This is because the Lego Club team wants to focus the content only for kids 12 years and younger.

To know which issue will be your last, Lego said that you will receive a notice with the magazine saying that it is your last one.

I think this is very disappointing because I really enjoy receiving the magazine. It's very useful to know about upcoming events, new sets and the comics are really fun. Also, I find 13 years old as an age limit to be young. They could have made it more around 16 or 18.

What do you think about this change? Does it affect you? Are you disappointed? Feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments.

Sherway Gardens Lego Store in Toronto

Hellego! This year, I took another visit to Toronto and I used the opportunity to go back the Lego store at the Sherway Gardens mall.

Like last time, it was a very fun experience. I got the opportunity to chat with an AFOL who worked there. Her name is Claire, also known as CleverLittleMinx on Flickr. She is also part of the ToroLUG so it was really fun getting to chat with her a bit. During this visit, I got two small Pick A Brick cups that I will show in the video. A lot of the creations and sets displayed were still the same as last year, but there has been some changes.

Check out the video I made from my visit!

New York City Lego Store at Rockefeller Center

Hellego! As said in my previous post, I went on a trip to New York City! There, I had the opportunity to visit the Rockefeller Lego store! It was obviously an awesome store. I mean, has there ever been an "un-awesome" Lego store? I decided to fill up a small Pick-A-Brick cup. They had a very nice selection of bricks!

Bionicle Coming Back in 2015?

Hellego! There have been rumors lately that Bionicle will be coming back in 2015! This is very exciting to hear since so many people were disappointed when it was discontinued. It was one of Lego's most successful themes and it's one of the themes that saved them from going out of business in the late 90's, early 2000.

The theme started in 2001 and lasted until 2010 where it was then discontinued and replaced by the Hero Factory theme which many people were disappointed about. Although the type of build was very similar, it really did not have the same feel to it and many Bionicle fans did not like the theme because of that. Also, many people like me grew up with Bionicle and knew the story very well. Up to 2010, the theme was still doing very well and there was no reason for Lego to stop it which made it even more frustrating. The theme had movies, video games, it had a whole world with lands like Mata Nui and had it's own language, sports and cultures. The backstories of this theme were huge! These are things that made this theme so interesting.

Now that you've read a bit of history, now is time to give out real news! Bionicle fans are very excited these days since a picture has recently been leaked, that has new, never before seen, Bionicle sets.

http://www.groovebricks.com/lego-bionicle-2015-leaked-image-color/

In the picture, we can see a total of 13 sets with new characters and we also have rumored names and set numbers!

70778: Defender of Jungle
70779: Defender of Stones
70780: Defender of Water
70781: Defender of Land
70782: Defender of Ice
70783: Defender of Fire
70784: Leva – Master of Jungle
70785: Pohatu – Master of Stones
70786: Gali – Master of Water
70787: Tahu – Master of Fire
70788: Copac – Master of Ice
70789: Onua – Master of Land
70790: Lord of the Skull Spiders
All of this is very exciting to hear! The Bionicle theme had ended unexpectedly and left us with many parts of the story unanswered. Having this theme back will not only continue the story, but it will also bring back a feeling of nostalgia to all the fans.

What do you think of this news? Are you excited? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments!

Closing Time...

Well, it's that awful time of year again, the time were your life is filled with stress and work. Yes, it is the final exam period and like millions of other students in high school, I have to start studying as much as possible, which means no more fun until the last moment in school.

This means that I have to stop making posts and videos on the blog for almost a month. No more Lego for awhile... :( I should be starting posting again around June 20 or 21. I can't wait for it to be all done.

And now, I wish good luck to all of you in the same situation as me. Remember, you are not the only one going through this hard period. Also, remember once it will be over, the world will be a happy place again. So good luck to you and have lot's success in your exams. I can't wait for it to be over. Good luck to all of you!

Hellego! News has just surfaced about the series 12 (technically 15) of the Collectible Minifigures! We now have the names of the minifigures which can help us guess what they will look like!
  1. Space Miner
  2. Battle Goddess
  3. Wizard
  4. Dino Tracker
  5. Swashbuckler
  6. Jester
  7. Piggy Guy
  8. Hun Warrior
  9. Fairytale Princess
  10. Pizza Delivery Man
  11. Video Game Guy
  12. Spooky Girl
  13. Prospector
  14. Genie Girl
  15. Rock Star
  16. Lifeguard
This series of minifigures is set to come out in October 2014. There will be a wave before it dedicated to the Minifigures Online game. What do you think of this list? I personally am glad to finally get back to a regular series without it being based on a movie or TV show. Which minifigures sound the most interesting to you? Leave your thoughts in the comments section!

Let's Talk About The End - Lego Minecraft

Hellego! As you probably know, up to know, Lego has released three Lego Minecraft sets. The original one from Cuusoo, simply called Minecraft Micro World, there is also the Village Micro World and the Nether Micro World.

Now, on June 1st, Lego will be releasing a new micro world: The End. The set will be priced like all the other ones between 35$ to 40$. For those of you who may not know, in the Minecraft video game, The End is a world you travel to after many steps in the game. There is the Ender Dragon that you have to beat and this place is a floating island in an empty void populated by Endermen. Once you manage to kill the dragon, you beat the game. Now obviously, this is not a place where you go very often in the game. In fact, a big part of the people who play the game have never even managed to get there.

Now the set will feature of course the Lego micro version of this world, the Ender Dragon and three or four Endermen. It's not yet clear how many Endermen there will be because on the box you see four, but in the picture of the Micromobs there are only three. I think it is very exciting to be getting Endermen as new Micromobs since they are very popular mobs in the video game. It's also nice that we will be getting multiple Endermen with the set.

I think this set looks really cool! It represents very well The End world from the game and the Ender Dragon looks very cool. The fact that you get Endermen is also very nice. Although as cool as it looks, I think the actual Micro World looks a bit boring. There are the big pillars a couple of hills and not much underground. If you compare it to the original Minecraft Micro World set, it had caves, trees, different types of land, sand, water, lava, different rocks in the underground caves, a cabin, etc. There was simply much more to it.

"Used by permission,® 2014 The LEGO Group"
So overall, I think it's very cool that we are getting a new Micro World set and I hope it will not be the last. The Micromobs in the set look great and the world itself is very well represented. I just think that the world isn't as varied or exciting as for example the Village or the original set. But again, I am happy Lego is releasing another Micro World and I think they did a good job.

If you want to see pictures and more details of the set, click this link: J!NX store

What do you think of this set? Are you excited for it? Let me know in the comment section!

Lego Minifigures Online Video Game News Update

Hellego! After not hearing much about the upcoming Lego Minifigures Online game, we finally have new info! If you do not know much about this game, check out the post I made about it a while back!
http://cdlegoblog.blogspot.ca/2014/02/new-upcoming-lego-minifigures-online.html

It has now been announced that the open beta for this game will be available this June, 2014! This is great news because if it is starting the beta stage, it means that the game is advanced in the development process. Those that are excited for the game will finally be able to get a taste. The developing company Funcom also stated that the game will launch as Free-To-Play this fall! This is very exciting as in my last post, I was not sure if it was going to be free-to-play or not. This also means that the game should be fully released this year and not in 2015.

In the article from Funcom, they also wrote that the June issue of the Lego magazine will feature a whole page about the game. Lego magazine readers will be able to vote which free exclusive minifigure they will recive with a special code in the September issue. The minifigure will only available to those with a code.

This is very exciting news to hear! I'm glade we are finally hearing more about the game. What do you think? Are you excited for this game? Leave a comment!

A Surprising Kight Fight - A Lego Stop Motion

Hellego! Here is a short stop motion I made this weekend. It's about two knights fighting and something unexpected happens. Enjoy!

Lego Cuusoo is now Lego Ideas

Hellego! One of the big news in the Lego world this week is that Lego Cuusoo is now called Lego Ideas. The website also has a complete new design to it and new features that should interest you.

Now, do not worry about the ideas you already posted while it was still called Cuusoo. Every thing is linked to your Lego ID so when you login to your account on the new website, there should not be a change in your projects. There is also a new point system containing clutch power, prizes and rewards.

The more you participate on the website, the more you get clutch power points. If you are very active, the number will go up. If you do not visit for awhile, the number of clutch power will go down. You can also get badges that are achievements you get after crossing a new milestone. For example, you can get the Autobiographer badge when you complete your profile and the 1k Club badge when one of your projects hits 1000 supporters. You can not lose your badges. There are also prizes and awards you can get if your idea becomes a product that were already there during the "Cuusoo time". You get 1% of the total sales profit, you get 5 copies of the set when it starts selling and you get credit and bio in the set as the creator.

That covers pretty much all the new changes. I personally like the new Lego ideas site. It has a fresh design and it's relatively easy to navigate. Although to me, it will always be called Lego Cuusoo ;) What do you think of this change? Leave a comment!

Lego Easter Haunt MOC

Hellego! If you've seen my happy Easter post last week, then you have already seen a picture of this MOC. I had created this MOC specifically for Easter. Although in the picture, there are some neat little details that you don't necessarly see with just the picture. So I will show you the whole MOC!

First off, the MOC shows Easter morning with the parents sitting, drinking their coffee while watching their kid search for the chocolate eggs the Easter bunny left him. There are a few Easter eggs scattered around, two couches, a TV set, a fire place, a pile of wood and a table with a lamp and news paper.

Check out this video I made to see more of this MOC!
